Collaboration between industry and academia can bring about tremendous benefits for both parties. In this blog, we’ll explore a successful collaboration between Multitaskr and Tecnológico de Monterrey, one of Mexico’s leading universities. This collaboration involved Mechanical engineering students and the Technology department at Multitaskr, and aimed to develop a machine prototype that enables Multitaskr’s 3D scanning system to perform a rotational movement.

In 2022, Multitaskr, as a way to increase our efforts on collaboration with academic institutions, to solve relevant and challenging engineering problems and identify high-performing talent, started a conversation with Tecnológico de Monterrey, one of Mexico’s leading universities, whose main campus resides on Monterrey, Mexico.
As a first iteration, this collaboration involved Mechanical engineering students and the Innovation and Technology department at Multitaskr.

Students were asked to apply creativity and innovation to develop a machine prototype that enables Multitaskr’s 3D scanning system to perform a rotational movement.
“More than 130 Mechanical Engineering students from Tecnológico de Monterrey major participated.”
More than 130 mechanical engineering students participated in the kick-off session. In this session, our Director of Technology, Carlos Mendoza, detailed the scope and expectations of the project and any restrictions considering real-life situations.

Approximately 40 teams were assembled, each responsible for designing, developing, and analyzing the mechanical feasibility of a working prototype. Our team reviewed and guided these teams through periodic follow-up sessions to inspect and refine their prototypes.
At the end of this iteration, with the support and validation of each of the three teachers responsible for the student groups, the ten most relevant projects were selected, and presented in a final session to the technology team of the Monterrey office for their observations and final considerations.

This year, following the success of this collaborative project, we have held such collaboration with Tecnológico de Monterrey and are currently working on three different projects with multi-disciplinary teams; and are further planning on strengthening such collaborative efforts.
We at Multitaskr believe that projects like this highlight the value of collaboration between industry and academia in tackling real-world challenges and promoting sustainable solutions for the future.
